Microsoft Teases A Metro-Style Version Of Office For Windows 8.1

During the opening keynote of its Build 2013 developer conference, Microsoft has teased a version of office which is specifically designed for Windows 8.1, which will be available through the Windows Store. During a private session, Microsoft showed Metro Style Office interface running in Windows 8.

Microsoft officials have not said exactly when the touch enabled version of PowerPoint, Excel and Word will be made available to the users. Currently, Microsoft is offering OneNote as a Windows 8 Metro app. A Company spokesman has said that the desktop version will have the same file format capability, graphic power and same transitions.

These apps will extensively run on devices powered by ARM processors or x86. In other words, one can say that it will run on Windows RT or Windows 8. This completely shows that the Company is fully committed to the Modern interface.

Windows 8.1 And The Modern UI

No doubt, Microsoft is truly committed in doing that and version 8.1’s features include; a lock screen to function as a slideshow for the images and local photos from the cloud based SkyDrive, which gives more flexibility in using a tablet and PC as a picture frame.

In 8.1, lifting from the bottom brings up all apps view which can be filtered by most used and named category. Under the apps view, new applications will be available that are ready to be pinned to the Windows 8 Start Screen.

Additionally, without having to first login, the user can easily take the photos from the device’s camera, when in the lock screen and that too in a hassle free manner. Not just this, 8.1 also allow files to be saved directly to SkyDrive and via a Microsoft account after logging onto 8.1.

Henceforth, nowadays it makes sense using this metro version of Office. Very soon, people will be able to make the full use of this amazing interface, with Microsoft Office integration.
